Pūcītes is one of the biggest quail farms in Latvia whose production started in 1997, when the founder Ilze Davidenko’s husband Ervin had to find a new occupation after the kolkhoz liquidation. The Davidenko couple bought 16 Japanese breed quails. And so from the 16 birds’farm it has developed into great quail farming business which reached the number of more than 15,000 quails. At the moment the farm keeps Japanese and Estonian crossbreed.
On the farm there are 7 workers who take care of quails and chicks as well as collect and box the eggs. Incubation and hatching of quails takes place on the farm to renew the poultry stock.
To provide quails balanced diet, they are fed on concentrated mixed bird feed. On the farm there were installed water purification and watering systems. Twice a day, quails are given food and their eggs get collected. Eggs are stored in a cool place till being packed. Each single egg is checked when being sorted and boxed, mostly for its shell to be not damaged or cracked. The eggs are packed according concrete orders and demands of the customers and prepared to transportation. Till being shipped to customers, the packed eggs are kept in the finished product storage.
